The Institute of Greek and Latin Studies conducts research in the linguistic, literary, historical and cultural aspects of several language regions, stretching across a number of historical periods and encompassing the region’s geographical diversity. Chronologically, the research extends from the earliest evidence of Greek and Roman cultures and their IE roots, through the classical period until the Middle Ages (Latin Medieval Studies; Byzantine Studies) and – as far as Greek is concerned – until the present (Modern Greek Studies).

At the end of the international Prague Summer School of Chinese Poetry, organized by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation International Sinology Centre att Charles University in early September, Prof Maghiel van Crevel from the University of Leiden presented Dr Šárka Masárová with a precious gift for the library of the Department of Sinology at CU FA.
The objective of open science is to make research robust and as transparent as possible.. The goal of the Open Science Support Centre, established at Charles University’s Central Library as part of the HR Award project, is to make this transition as easy as possible for researchers.
The results of the entrance examinations for BA and MA programmes in the additional admission procedure were published on Thursday, 5 September 2024. They are available in the Student Information System (SIS) after signing in with the respective credentials.
The conference “Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy: Philosophical Encounters” will be held on 16–18 September 2024 at the main building of CU FA. The symposium within the OP JAK CoRe project titled “Preaching and Conflict: 24th International Medieval Sermon Studies Symposium” took place on 11–16 July 2024 in Prague. The conference was co-organized by Prof Lucie Doležalová from the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies at CU FA and Dr Pavel Soukup from the Centre for Medieval Studies at the CAS
Faculty of Arts, Charles University (CU FA), was awarded a grant for a prestigious ERA-AREAS project from the Horizon Europe programme (ERA Chair scheme). In collaboration with Prof Mariana Llanos from the German Institute of Global and Area Studies, the project team will carry out research of contemporary critical phenomena in non-European regions over the next five years.
During July and August, the buildings on Jan Palach Square 1/2 and in Hybernská 3 are closing at 7:30 pm.
