CENTRAL Network „ Translating the Nation ” Workshop II
16-17 May 2025 | Charles University, Prague
The CENTRAL Network „Translating the Nation“ is a scholarly collaboration focused on investigating the presence of Hellenism in Central Europe through diverse methodological frameworks. This research collective is coordinated by Maria Stassinopoulou (University of Vienna), Przemysław Kordos (University of Warsaw), Niovi Zambouka (Humboldt University of Berlin) and Konstantinos Tsivos (Charles University of Prague).
The second workshop on „The Greek Diaspora in Central Europe“ will take place at the Institute of Greek and Latin Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University, on 16 and 17 May 2025, in collaboration with the Czech Society for Modern Greek Studies.
In alignement with the principles of the CENTRAL network (https:// www.central-network.eu), the workshops aim to promote academic collaboration and facilitate communication among participants from universities across Central Europe, spanning all academic levels. The event will provide various opportunities for the exchange of ideas and experiences, including roundtable discussions involving academics, postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as undergraduate students acting as discussants. English and Greek will be the working languages throughout all meetings.
The Prague workshop is intended for researchers from disciplines associated with Modern Greek Studies, including history, literature, philology, linguistics, international relations, political science, social anthropology, as well as theatre and film studies.
We invite young scholars to submit papers that propose new approaches and focus on texts, individuals and representations of Hellenism within the broader region of Central Europe. The main themes, though not exclusive, are as follows:
- Diasporic groups, migrations, and forced movements in Central Europe.
- Reception of modern Hellenism in the history, literature and press of Central European countries.
- Relations between Central European countries and Greece or Cyprus.
Please send the title and abstract of your paper (max. 200 words), along with a short biographical note (max. 100 words) in either Greek or English, to the following email address by 30 March 2025: tsivkaff@ff.cuni.cz
